Patna, Aug 11: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday paid homage to seven freedom fighters who lost their lives during the Quit India Movement in 1942, at a state-level Martyrs’ Day ceremony held at the Shaheed Smarak here.Choudhary laid a floral wreath at the memorial and remembered the courage and sacrifice of the freedom fighters who were killed on August 11, 1942, during the movement against British rule.
The seven martyrs — Umakant Prasad Singh, Ramanand Singh, Satish Prasad Jha, Jagatpati Kumar, Devipad Chaudhary, Rajendra Singh and Ram Govind Singh — were honoured during the ceremony.
The Chief Minister said the patriotism and sacrifice of the martyrs would continue to inspire Bihar as well as the nation.Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh, Assembly Deputy Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav, several state ministers, legislators and other public representatives also paid floral tributes.
Senior government officials, including the Chief Minister’s secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, Patna Divisional Commissioner Mayank Warvade, District Magistrate Kundan Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K Sharma, attended the programme along with family members of the martyrs.
The ceremony highlighted Bihar’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle and served as a reminder of the sacrifices made during the Quit India Movement.The Chief Minister also paid tribute to late freedom fighter, educationist and farmer leader Guru Sahay Lal on his birth anniversary.At a separate state-level function at the S K Memorial Hall complex, Choudhary offered floral tributes to Lal’s portrait.
The programme also featured performances by artists from the Information and Public Relations Department, including the National Song, National Anthem, Bihar’s state song and other patriotic compositions.The commemorative programmes aimed to preserve the memory of freedom fighters and underline the importance of their contribution to India’s independence.
