New Delhi, Aug 9 : A 19-year-old third-year BA student of Delhi University’s Aryabhatta College was found dead near the Rajouri Garden Metro station area on Saturday, police said.
According to officials, the body was spotted near the Mall of Rajouri Garden during a routine patrol by Head Constable Avdhesh. The information was subsequently conveyed to the Rajouri Garden police station, following which a police team reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
A crime team and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team were also called to the location to examine the scene and collect relevant evidence. Police said a note was recovered from the deceased, which is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Officials said the preliminary inquiry has not revealed any evidence of suspicious activity at the spot. Legal proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been initiated.
Police examining circumstances
The deceased was identified as a student of Aryabhatta College, and investigators are verifying information about her personal and academic background as part of the inquiry.
According to the information available to police, the note indicated that the student had taken the decision herself and reportedly referred to her emotional distress following the death of her mother in 2021. However, police are examining the note along with other evidence before reaching any conclusion about the circumstances surrounding the death.
Investigators are also speaking to people who knew the student and checking available information to establish a complete sequence of events.
Police said the investigation is continuing and the exact circumstances leading to the death will be established after examination of forensic evidence and other material collected during the probe.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of timely emotional and mental-health support for young people experiencing severe distress.
