New Delhi, Aug 9: More than 5.14 lakh women have registered for the Delhi government’s Lakshmi Yojana within a week of the launch of its online portal, with the government preparing to release the first instalment to eligible beneficiaries around Raksha Bandhan.
According to portal data, 5,14,460 women had registered under the scheme by Saturday afternoon, while 2,18,728 applications had been finally submitted after completion of the required process.Of the total registrations, 4,36,316 applicants have provided details of their district or Assembly constituency, while 78,144 are yet to complete that part of the registration process.
Under the scheme, eligible women will receive Rs 2,500 per month as financial assistance. The government has also proposed options aimed at encouraging savings and digital financial inclusion.
In one option, Rs 1,000 will be retained in a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet for regular expenses, while the remaining Rs 1,500 will be deposited through an RD or FD. Beneficiaries can also opt to place the entire Rs 2,500 in an RD or FD.
The government plans to release the first instalment around Raksha Bandhan, subject to completion of the eligibility verification and application process.
District-wise, Northeast Delhi recorded the highest number of registrations at 73,676, of which 38,579 applications had been finally submitted. Northwest Delhi followed with 55,700 registrations and 34,545 final applications.
West Delhi recorded 44,358 registrations, while Southwest Delhi had 44,149. Outer North registered 39,401 women and Southeast Delhi 38,979.
At the other end of the spectrum, New Delhi district recorded the lowest number of registrations at 5,573, with 1,801 applications finally submitted.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has described the response to the scheme as significant, saying the government is seeking to link financial assistance with savings, digital financial inclusion and long-term economic security for women.
The government has urged eligible women who have not yet registered to complete the process through the official scheme portal.
The scheme is part of the Delhi government’s broader effort to promote women’s economic empowerment and provide direct financial support to eligible beneficiaries.
