New Delhi, Aug. 6: Hockey India on Thursday announced an 18-member Indian junior women’s hockey team for the AHF Junior Asia Cup 2026, scheduled to be held in Moqi, China, from August 30 to September 13.Midfielder Khaidem Shileima Chanu will lead the side, while two alternate players have also been named to provide cover during the tournament if required.
The squad has completed an intensive training camp under newly appointed head coach Tim White, with the focus on improving match readiness, fitness and team coordination ahead of the continental competition.
The AHF Junior Asia Cup is regarded as one of the premier junior women’s hockey tournaments in Asia and will feature leading under-21 teams from across the continent. The competition offers young players an opportunity to gain valuable international experience and showcase their talent against top regional opponents.
Hockey India said the tournament will serve as an important platform for nurturing future international players and strengthening India’s junior hockey programme. Performances at the event are expected to play a significant role in the development of players aspiring to represent the senior national team in the coming years.
The schedule of matches and pool allocations for the tournament are expected to be announced closer to the start of the competition.India will aim to deliver a strong performance as it continues its preparations for the tournament, with the squad looking to build on the country’s growing reputation in women’s hockey at the junior level.
