Patna, Aug 3: A team from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, led by Director Prof. T.N. Singh, conducted a detailed inspection of the centuries-old Shree Ram Janki Math in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district as preparations continued for its restoration.The historic Math, located at Raghopur Bakhri, is believed to be around 834 years old.
The inspection was carried out to assess the site’s geographical conditions, structural requirements and technical needs before restoration work begins.The restoration project is being undertaken under the guidance of the Ramayan Research Council and is scheduled to commence on July 29, 2026.
During the visit, the IIT Patna experts examined the physical condition of the site and reviewed technical factors related to the proposed reconstruction. The team also held discussions on suitable engineering measures that could support the safe and sustainable development of the historic complex.
The experts are expected to provide technical recommendations aimed at ensuring structural stability, long-term durability and appropriate development of the site while preserving its historical and religious significance.Prof. Singh said IIT Patna had been providing technical guidance and expert support to the Ramayan Research Council since the early stages of the project.
He said the institute was committed to contributing its scientific and engineering expertise to support the restoration of the ancient religious site.The proposed restoration is expected to help preserve an important part of Bihar’s cultural and religious heritage.
The project may also strengthen the historical significance of the site and support its development as a centre for religious and cultural activities.
The inspection marked an important step in the preparations for the restoration work, with technical planning expected to play a key role in ensuring the long-term preservation of the centuries-old Math.
