Patna, Aug 1: Political tensions surfaced within Bihar’s opposition Grand Alliance after polling concluded for the Bankipur Assembly by-election, with the Congress accusing Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav of failing to maintain coordination among alliance partners.Congress national spokesperson Asit Nath Tiwari alleged that Tejashwi Yadav was no longer showing adequate interest in strengthening the alliance and had failed to provide effective leadership to its partners during the election campaign.
Tiwari also questioned the RJD’s ability to retain its traditional Muslim-Yadav, or “MY”, support base. Referring to the Bankipur by-election, he claimed that voters from the two communities appeared politically divided and alleged that the RJD leadership had failed to consolidate its core support.
The Congress spokesperson further claimed that the opposition alliance had not effectively used the collective strength of its constituent parties during the campaign. He said better coordination and greater involvement of alliance partners could have improved the coalition’s electoral prospects.In a more serious political allegation, Tiwari referred to speculation about a possible understanding between Tejashwi Yadav and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
However, no evidence was presented to substantiate the claim, and there was no immediate response from the RJD or Tejashwi Yadav.The remarks have brought internal differences within the Grand Alliance into the open at a crucial time, as political parties await the outcome of the Bankipur Assembly by-election.
The exchange is expected to intensify political debate in Bihar, with the election result likely to influence discussions over leadership, coordination and the future strategy of the opposition alliance.
