Jehanabad, July 31: The Jehanabad district administration has announced a series of measures to strengthen road safety, expedite key infrastructure projects and improve emergency response, with District Magistrate Chhiring Y. Bhutia directing officials to intensify enforcement against traffic violations and fast-track the construction of the Arwal Mor railway underpass.

The decisions were taken during a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee chaired by the District Magistrate and attended by Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar, the District Transport Officer, traffic police officials, engineers and members of various departments.

Reviewing the progress of the Arwal Mor railway underpass, officials informed the meeting that the southern portion of the structure has been completed and will be opened to traffic after the curing period. Construction on the northern section will commence thereafter.

The District Magistrate directed the Executive Engineer of National Highway-33 to expedite the remaining work by using quick-setting cement to ensure early completion of the project.

To curb road accidents, the administration ordered intensified enforcement against overspeeding, overloading, riding without helmets, seat belt violations and other traffic rule breaches. Officials were directed to launch regular inspections and initiate legal action, including issuing challans, against violators.

The meeting also decided to improve visibility along National Highway-33 by trimming bushes growing on both sides of the road to minimise accident risks.

Emphasising the importance of the “golden hour” following road accidents, the District Magistrate instructed officials to prioritise immediate medical treatment for accident victims by strengthening ambulance services and enhancing coordination with hospitals. He also directed authorities to ensure timely disbursal of financial assistance to families of those who lose their lives in road accidents under Bihar government welfare schemes.

In an effort to ease traffic congestion, the administration decided to identify suitable parking spaces across the town. A colour-coding system will also be introduced for auto-rickshaws and tempos to regulate their movement on designated routes and improve traffic management.

The committee further reviewed identified black and grey spots across the district and directed the concerned departments to prioritise safety measures, including installation of signboards, speed breakers, road markings, crash barriers and warning signs at accident-prone locations.

Concluding the meeting, the District Magistrate stressed the need for coordinated efforts among all departments to reduce road accidents and ensure a safer and smoother traffic system across Jehanabad.
