Chhattisgarh labourer killed, another injured in terror attack in J-K’s Kulgam

Srinagar, July 31: A labourer from Chhattisgarh was killed and another was injured after terrorists opened fire at a brick kiln in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday, officials said.The attack took place in the Kelam area of south Kashmir during the evening.

The assailants targeted workers employed at the brick kiln, leaving two labourers injured.One of the injured workers succumbed to his injuries before he could be shifted to a hospital. The second labourer was referred to Government Medical College Hospital in Anantnag for specialised treatment, officials said.

Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace those involved in the attack.Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the incident and said he had spoken with Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and other senior security officials.

The Lieutenant Governor directed security agencies to intensify operations against terrorist elements and ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.He expressed condolences to the family of the deceased labourer and wished the injured worker a speedy recovery.

Sinha said the Jammu and Kashmir administration stood with the affected families during the difficult time.Political leaders and parties also condemned the attack, describing the targeting of migrant workers as a cruel and inhuman act.PDP president Mehbooba Mufti expressed grief over the incident and said the workers had travelled far from their homes to earn a livelihood and support their families.Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari termed the attack a tragic act of violence and said innocent workers should never be targeted.

He expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and called for swift action against those responsible.The People’s Conference also condemned the incident, saying violence against civilians was unacceptable and contrary to the values of peace and humanity.

The party offered condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the recovery of the injured worker.The attack comes days after a police officer was killed in a separate terrorist incident in Anantnag, adding to security concerns in south Kashmir.
