Ranchi, July 22: Tension prevailed in Ranchi on Wednesday after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers, along with members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), staged protests over alleged irregularities in the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Preliminary Examination.
The protesters first gathered at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium before marching towards the JPSC headquarters, demanding an independent inquiry into the examination process.
Police stopped the march by erecting barricades, and a brief confrontation took place when some demonstrators attempted to move closer to the commission’s office. Security personnel brought the situation under control without any major incident.
Later, BJP workers proceeded towards the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee office, where they sought to stage a protest against the state government.
Police prevented the march from reaching the main entrance, leading to another brief scuffle as protesters attempted to cross barricades.
During the demonstration, BJP workers raised slogans against the state government and the Congress leadership. Congress leaders and supporters gathered inside the party office also responded with slogans in support of their party, creating a charged atmosphere in the area.
Anticipating possible unrest, the district administration deployed additional police personnel around the Congress office.
Senior police officers supervised security arrangements and ensured that workers from both political parties remained separated to avoid any direct confrontation.
The BJP alleged that the recruitment process for the 14th JPSC Preliminary Examination lacked transparency and claimed deserving candidates had been adversely affected.
The party demanded a fair investigation, action against those responsible for any irregularities, and justice for aspirants.
Congress leaders dismissed the allegations, maintaining that the matter was already under examination by the appropriate authorities.
They described the protest as politically motivated and accused the opposition of attempting to gain political mileage.
Police officials said the situation remained under control throughout the day, with enhanced security measures continuing in sensitive locations to prevent any untoward incidents.
