Ranchi, July 16: The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee has dismissed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) allegation that the arrest of a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader was politically motivated, asserting that the action was carried out strictly in accordance with the law.

Addressing the media, Congress State Secretary and spokesperson Rakesh Kumar Singh said the BJP was attempting to give a political colour to a legal matter and mislead the public.

He maintained that the case was based on due legal procedure and available evidence rather than political considerations.

According to the Congress, the case involves allegations that forged documents were submitted before a court and that the signature of a government official was allegedly misused.

Singh said the concerned government department examined the documents and reportedly found them to be forged, following which a First Information Report (FIR) was registered.

He added that the police carried out the arrest in accordance with legal procedures.

The Congress also challenged the BJP to present documentary evidence before the court if it believes the disputed documents are genuine.

It argued that describing the arrest as political retaliation amounts to an attempt to influence the judicial process. In a separate statement, Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary and Media Department Coordinator Lal Kishore Nath Shahdev defended the functioning of the state government.

Responding to criticism from Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi, Shahdev said the government is working transparently and that all welfare schemes are regularly audited.

He further urged the BJP to press the Central Government to release Jharkhand’s pending financial dues, including coal royalty and compensation, instead of making political allegations against the state government.

The Congress reiterated that the matter should be allowed to proceed through the legal and judicial process and maintained that law enforcement agencies acted on the basis of evidence and established legal procedures.
