Ranchi, July 14: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed officials to make the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) fully operational within the next 15 days while reviewing the functioning of the Higher and Technical Education Department.
The move is aimed at accelerating recruitment in state universities and strengthening the higher education system.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the department to expedite the approval of vacant teaching posts to facilitate the appointment of faculty members in universities.
He also ordered a comprehensive assessment of the condition of student hostels and directed officials to undertake necessary repairs and maintenance on a priority basis.
To enhance opportunities for students preparing for competitive examinations, Soren directed the Higher and Technical Education Department to operationalise the Coaching Accelerator Authority within 15 days.
The initiative is expected to provide structured coaching and academic support to aspirants across the state.The Chief Minister also asked officials to prepare a detailed roadmap for the 2026–27 academic session, focusing on the introduction of live online classes for university students.
The programme will initially be launched as a pilot project at Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University in Ranchi and Binod Bihari Mahto Koyalanchal University (BBMKU) in Dhanbad before being expanded to other institutions.
Highlighting the importance of student welfare, Soren directed officials to ensure the timely implementation of scholarship schemes, including the Guruji Student Credit Card Scheme, the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Overseas Scholarship Scheme, and the Manaki Munda Scholarship Scheme.
He said deserving students should receive financial assistance without unnecessary delays.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that educational loans under the Guruji Student Credit Card Scheme have been approved for 2,888 eligible students.
Of these, 243 students have already received loans amounting to approximately ₹64 crore.
Soren instructed the department to coordinate with the Welfare Department to ensure that every eligible student receives financial support for higher education.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to developing Jharkhand’s higher and technical education sector in line with global standards.
He stressed the need for modern, industry-oriented education to meet the state’s growing demand for skilled professionals, particularly in sectors such as mining and allied industries.
During the meeting, Soren also directed officials to prepare legislation for granting BIT Sindri the status of a Unitary University, appoint Technical Education Directors in nine districts, and establish a new government society on the lines of IITs and NITs for the efficient management of BIT Sindri and other government engineering institutions.
The review meeting concluded with a focus on improving educational infrastructure, ensuring timely recruitment, expanding digital learning, and strengthening financial assistance programmes to enhance the quality of higher and technical education across Jharkhand.
