Ranchi, Aug 27 : The Jharkhand Assembly may have several young faces, but a look at the age profile of its 81 members reveals an interesting fact: there is currently no Gen Z legislator in the House.

Gen Z is generally defined as people born between 1997 and 2012. In India, the minimum age to contest an Assembly election is 25. This means people born between 1997 and the early 2000s are now eligible to enter electoral politics.

However, based on the available birth-date details of the current 81 MLAs, none falls within the Gen Z category.

Five MLAs aged 40 or below

Although the Assembly has no Gen Z representative, it does have five legislators aged 40 or below, who broadly belong to the Millennial generation.

Among the prominent young faces are JLKM’s Dumri MLA Jairam Kumar Mahato and Congress MLA Shilpi Neha Tirkey from Mandar.

Mahato, who has emerged as one of the prominent younger political voices in Jharkhand, represents Dumri, while Tirkey represents Mandar.

The presence of younger legislators has added a new dimension to the state’s political landscape, particularly after the latest Assembly elections. However, the current composition shows that Jharkhand’s legislative politics has yet to see the entry of a formally defined Gen Z MLA.

The age profile also highlights the gradual emergence of younger leaders in the state’s politics, even as the Assembly continues to have a broad mix of generations and political experience.
