Ranchi, May 27: Usha Martin University and Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) held a pre-MoU discussion on Wednesday to explore opportunities for academic and research collaboration in mining and civil engineering-related fields, the university said in a statement.
The meeting, held at the university campus in Ranchi, was attended by CIMFR scientist Dr. Niraj Kumar and a technical officer team, along with university officials and faculty members. Discussions focused on potential joint research in areas such as rock mechanics, fluid mechanics, geomechanics, soil mechanics and geology, with an emphasis on strengthening industry-oriented learning and applied research.

Both institutions also discussed promoting sustainable mining practices through “Green Mining” initiatives and explored possibilities for technical knowledge exchange, collaborative research projects, innovation-led academic activities, and student and faculty engagement programmes.
University officials attending the meeting included Registrar Dr. Shiv Pratap Verma, Dean Academics Dr. B.N. Sinha, Campus Director Dr. A.K. Mishra and Head of the Department of Mining Prof. B.N. Dubey, along with faculty members from the mining department.
The proposed partnership is expected to support interdisciplinary research, deepen industry-academia collaboration and contribute to the development of sustainable solutions and skilled professionals for the mining sector.
The meeting concluded with both institutions expressing interest in formalising the collaboration through a memorandum of understanding in the near future.
