Chandigarh, Feb 21: Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government in Punjab of attempting to obstruct his programmes in the state, alleging that such actions were aimed at hiding governance failures.

Addressing a programme at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state headquarters in Chandigarh, Saini said efforts were being made to prevent leaders from visiting Punjab instead of addressing public issues.

“Today, when someone visits Punjab, they try to create a situation that the person shouldn’t come. The government is trying to hide its shortcomings and is doing the work of stopping others from coming to Punjab,” he said.

Urging the state government to focus on governance, he added, “Don’t try to stop anyone’s work, but focus on your own work.”

The remarks came amid recent protests by AAP legislators and workers during Saini’s visits, including black flag demonstrations during his visit to Amritsar. He also has scheduled programmes in Ludhiana as part of his outreach activities.

During the event, more than 200 students and youth associated with the Hindustan Students Association of Panjab University joined the BJP in Saini’s presence. The newly inducted members said they were inspired by his leadership and governance model.

Targeting the Punjab government, Saini alleged that successive AAP and Congress administrations had failed to deliver on promises and allowed corruption, gangsterism, and drug abuse to grow in the state.

“When a BJP government is formed in 2027, gangsterism in Punjab will come to an end. AAP has only given promotion to gangsterism,” he said.

Expressing concern over rising drug abuse, Saini said the problem was adversely affecting youth and stressed the need for strong preventive measures and awareness campaigns.

Saini, who has been visiting Punjab frequently, said his outreach programmes were aimed at strengthening the BJP’s presence in the state and connecting with youth and civil society.

He also highlighted developmental initiatives undertaken in Haryana, including employment opportunities for youth, sports promotion, and anti-drug campaigns, asserting that similar governance could ensure Punjab’s progress.
