Moscow, July 20: The Kremlin on Friday said it agreed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent call to inject greater momentum into peace talks between the two countries, though no new date has been set for a fresh round of negotiations.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow shares the view that peace discussions need to move forward. “We are in agreement that the negotiation process must be stepped up,” Peskov said.
Russia and Ukraine have held two rounds of peace talks in Turkey this year, which led to agreements on prisoner exchanges and the repatriation of soldiers’ remains. However, the sides remain deeply divided on the terms of a possible ceasefire, and further talks have not yet been scheduled.
Meanwhile, Peskov also addressed recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned of secondary sanctions on buyers of Russian exports. He said the Kremlin does not interpret those warnings as a signal that Washington is closing the door on bilateral discussions with Moscow.
“We do not see this as the end of dialogue with the United States,” Peskov said, adding that Russia remains open to engagement on issues of mutual concern.
