North Korea fires ballistic missile Into East Sea – South Korea

Seoul, May 9 – North Korea fired an unidentified ballistic missile off its east coast on Thursday, South Korea’s military said, in the latest show of force from Pyongyang amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed the launch but said further details were still being assessed.

The launch comes weeks after North Korea fired multiple ballistic missiles in March, condemning joint military drills conducted by South Korea and the United States as a “dangerous provocative act.”

Thursday’s launch adds to a series of weapons tests by Pyongyang in recent months, as the country ramps up its military activities while accusing Seoul and Washington of escalating tensions through their regular military exercises.

There was no immediate comment from North Korean state media, and officials in Seoul have not indicated whether the missile posed any immediate threat to civilian areas.
