Mumbai, Mar 20: Streaming platform Amazon Prime Video on Thursday unveiled a new poster for its upcoming series Matka King, headlined by Vijay Varma, offering a glimpse into a story set in the backdrop of 1960s Mumbai and centred on the rise of an underground gambling network.
The poster features Varma holding a spread of playing cards close to his face, signalling themes of strategy, risk and control.
Designed in muted tones with a vintage aesthetic, the visual underscores the period setting and hints at a narrative driven by calculated ambition and shifting power dynamics.
Matka King traces the journey of a cotton trader who seeks social acceptance in a rigid hierarchy and introduces a new form of gambling known as ‘Matka’.
The game gradually expands across the city, challenging established systems and altering the socio-economic landscape.The series is created and directed by Nagraj Manjule, who has co-written the project with Abhay Koranne.
It is produced by Roy Kapur Films in collaboration with Aatpat and SMR Productions.
The production team includes Siddharth Roy Kapur, Manjule, Gargi Kulkarni, Ashish Aryan and Ashwini Sidwani.The ensemble cast also features Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadavat and Gulshan Grover in key roles.
With its focus on ambition, power and social mobility, the series is expected to present a layered, character-driven narrative against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving urban landscape.No release date for Matka King has been announced yet.
