April 22 – French fashion house Dior unveiled its Fall 2025 collection in Kyoto, Japan, drawing heavily on traditional Japanese garments and cultural references, as Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri paid tribute to the country’s rich sartorial heritage.
The collection featured garments inspired by the kimono jacket, reinterpreted through the lens of Dior’s historical archive, including nods to the Diorpaletot and Diorcoat created by founder Christian Dior in 1957. Those pieces were originally designed to complement the kimono silhouette while preserving its shape.
Chiuri’s designs also referenced Dior’s historical links with Japan, recalling Marc Bohan’s 1971 presentation of Dior models in Tokyo. The Kyoto show included inspirations from Japanese theater characters and the exhibition “Love Fashion: In Search of Myself”, which the designer visited during her creative process.
The garments emphasized fluidity and form, with enveloping jackets, wide-legged trousers, and long skirts that moved with the wearer. Luxurious silk fabrics featured delicate prints resembling Japanese gardens, while black tones and floral patterns dominated the color palette. Golden embroidery and refined craftsmanship underscored the collection’s narrative around body, identity, and desire, as Dior continues its dialogue between Western couture and Eastern tradition.
