Colombo, Jan 7: Colombo Fort Police have taken into custody two suspects, including a serving police constable, in connection with an alleged incident of indecent behaviour involving a 16-year-old schoolgirl near the Presidential Secretariat.
According to police sources, the incident is believed to have occurred on the evening of January 5 in a wooded area located behind the Presidential Secretariat premises. Law enforcement officers acted on information received regarding suspicious activity in the area, leading to the arrests.
Investigations revealed that one of the suspects is a police constable attached to the Maligawatte Police, while the second individual is a civilian resident of the Gothatuwa Ambagahawaththa area.
The minor involved was taken into protective custody and subsequently admitted to the Colombo De Soysa Women’s Hospital, where she is receiving medical care and observation, police said.
The suspects are expected to be produced before court in due course, while Colombo Fort Police continue further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
