April 3 – India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has decided to leave Mumbai, his domestic side, to join Goa for the 2025-26 season, citing personal reasons. Jaiswal, 23, submitted his request to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Tuesday (April 1), and the governing body has accepted his move, an MCA official confirmed to PTI on Wednesday.
“Yes, it is surprising. He must have thought of something to make such a move. He has requested us to relieve him and we have accepted his request,” the official said.
Jaiswal last played for Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy Group A league match against Jammu and Kashmir in January, scoring 4 and 26 in a five-wicket defeat. That match was his only appearance in the 2024-25 season, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has mandated that all national players must participate in domestic cricket when not on international duty.
Goa Cricket Association secretary Shamba Desai confirmed Jaiswal’s switch and indicated that he could be in contention for the captaincy when available.
“He wants to play for us, and we welcome him. He will be playing for us from the next season,” Desai told PTI. “He plays for the Indian cricket team, so he can be the captain, and we will work in that direction. Regarding his availability (for domestic competitions), we are yet to speak.”
Jaiswal becomes the third Mumbai cricketer in recent years to move to Goa after Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, both of whom joined ahead of the 2022-23 season. Lad later returned to Mumbai after serving his cooling-off period. Since making his Test debut against the West Indies in July 2023, Jaiswal has established himself as India’s first-choice opener. In 19 matches, he has scored more than 52 runs per innings, including four centuries and 10 half-centuries.
