New Delhi, Sep 20: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the ninth edition of the India International Water Week (IIWW) 2026 in New Delhi on September 22, with climate-resilient water management set to be the central theme of the five-day international event.
Organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti in collaboration with central ministries, state governments, international organisations, research and academic institutions, industry bodies, development partners, civil society and the private sector, the event will be held at Bharat Mandapam from September 22 to 26.
The water week is expected to bring together policymakers, global water experts, researchers, professionals, industry representatives, civil society groups, startups and young professionals to discuss emerging challenges in the water sector and explore practical solutions for a water-secure and climate-resilient future.
The inaugural session on September 22 will be attended by the Union Minister for Jal Shakti and other dignitaries.The Netherlands and Germany will participate as partner countries, providing an opportunity for international stakeholders to exchange experiences and strengthen cooperation in water management.
Fourteen states have also been designated as partner states, while six Union ministries and departments have been invited to participate as partner ministries and departments.
The programme will feature several platforms, including ministerial and global water leaders’ plenary sessions, country forums, a water leaders’ forum, practitioners’ forum, thematic sessions, startup and youth forums, and an industry forum.Discussions will cover a range of issues, including equitable access to water, cooperation for efficient use of water resources, technology and community participation in water security, climate-related risks to water resources, innovative financing for water infrastructure, sustainable water resource management, and water for people and the planet.
An international exhibition and technology showcase will also be organised from September 22 to 25. It will provide a platform for showcasing technologies, products and solutions aimed at promoting sustainable and climate-resilient water management.
The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation will organise the second International WASH Conference from September 22 to 24. The conference will focus on drinking water access, sanitation infrastructure, hygiene practices and public health, with emphasis on affordable, scalable and sustainable solutions.
The organisers said the event will seek to convert discussions and knowledge-sharing into actionable recommendations, partnerships and solutions by bringing together policy, financing, technology and community participation.
The main deliberations will conclude with a valedictory session on September 25, followed by study visits on September 26.The India International Water Week has emerged as a platform for stakeholders from India and abroad to share experiences, showcase innovations and strengthen cooperation in the water sector.
The 2026 edition will place climate resilience at the heart of water-related discussions while focusing on practical and implementable approaches to sustainable water management.
