Nalgonda, Sep 24: Authorities on Thursday issued an emergency flood alert for the Musi River catchment areas in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts following heavy inflows from upstream regions amid incessant rainfall.
Officials cautioned residents about the possibility of reservoir gates being opened due to rising inflows and urged people living in the Musi catchment areas to remain alert.
Residents were also warned against visiting areas surrounding the river under any circumstances and asked to follow safety instructions and advisories issued by the Revenue and Irrigation departments.
Meanwhile, the Nalgonda District Collector declared a holiday for all government and private schools in the district on Thursday as a precautionary measure in view of the heavy rainfall caused by a low-pressure system.
The Collector advised students and the general public to avoid venturing outdoors unless absolutely necessary and follow instructions issued by the local administration.
The public was also urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions amid the continuing heavy rainfall.
Officials said residents in the Musi catchment areas of Nalgonda and Suryapet should remain alert in view of the possibility of reservoir gates being opened.
They reiterated the warning that people should not visit areas surrounding the river under any circumstances.
