Mumbai, Sept 18 : Indian equity markets ended on a mixed note, with the Nifty 50 gaining more than 75 points while the Sensex closed marginally lower on Friday.

The Nifty 50 settled 75.80 points higher at 23,346.40, compared with its provisional close of 23,341.85 recorded at 3:15 pm. The Sensex ended 19.63 points lower at 74,294.96, reversing its provisional gain of 245.38 points.

Broader markets remained firm during the session. The Nifty SmallCap 100 index gained more than 1 per cent, while the Nifty MidCap 100 index was up around 0.5 per cent, reflecting continued buying interest in mid- and small-cap stocks.

Global Market Cues

Global markets also provided a positive backdrop. US stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 316 points, or 0.6 per cent. The S&P 500 gained 1.1 per cent, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.7 per cent.

The gains came after the US Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points a day earlier. Policymakers also indicated that another rate increase could be delivered later this year.

Oil Prices Decline

Crude oil prices fell for a third consecutive session as traders assessed prospects of improved supplies and developments related to the US-Iran conflict.

Brent crude slipped below $104 a barrel, extending losses after declining more than 3 per cent over the previous two sessions. West Texas Intermediate crude traded near $101 a barrel.

Market participants continued to track global interest-rate expectations, crude oil prices and geopolitical developments for further direction.
