Sasaram, Aug 8: A brief power disruption at the emergency ward of Sadar Hospital in Rohtas district’s Sasaram prompted doctors and medical staff to use mobile phone flashlights while attending to patients, with authorities ordering an inquiry into the incident.
Videos showing healthcare workers treating patients in low-light conditions circulated on social media, raising concerns about the hospital’s emergency power arrangements.The incident reportedly occurred at the Model Hospital associated with Sadar Hospital when electricity supply was interrupted during emergency operations.
Staff members continued attending to patients with the help of mobile phone torches until the power supply was restored.The incident has drawn attention because the hospital has dedicated arrangements intended to ensure uninterrupted electricity, including a separate transformer, generators and other backup systems.
Rohtas District Magistrate Deepak Kumar Mishra said a preliminary assessment indicated that an MCB malfunction had triggered the interruption. According to the initial findings, the power supply was affected for around two minutes.The district administration has constituted a team to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident. Officials will examine the cause of the electrical failure and determine whether the hospital’s backup systems functioned properly.
The inquiry is also expected to assess the maintenance and operational readiness of the emergency power infrastructure and identify any lapse, if established.Officials said further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The incident has renewed concerns over the preparedness of public healthcare facilities to maintain essential services during unexpected electricity failures, particularly in emergency departments where continuous lighting and power are crucial for patient care.
