New Delhi, September 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Uganda’s Vice President Jessica Rose Epel Alupo in New Delhi on Sunday on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, with the two sides discussing ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in key development areas.
During the meeting, Modi and Alupo reviewed the overall India-Uganda partnership and emphasised the need to deepen collaboration in technology, capacity building, knowledge sharing, investment facilitation and private-sector engagement.The two leaders highlighted the importance of the development partnership between India and Uganda, describing it as an important source of strength for both countries.
Modi reaffirmed India’s support for Uganda’s long-term development objectives under Vision 2040, which seeks to transform the country into a modern and prosperous economy.
The Indian Prime Minister also stressed the importance of strong people-to-people relations, noting that close ties between the citizens of the two countries provide a lasting foundation for bilateral cooperation.
The discussions also covered the need for closer coordination between India and Uganda in advancing the interests of the Global South. Both sides called for stronger cooperation to ensure that the concerns and priorities of developing countries receive greater attention in international forums.
Modi thanked Vice President Alupo for her participation in the BRICS Summit and welcomed Uganda’s engagement with the summit process.
The meeting underlined India’s continued efforts to strengthen its partnerships with African countries through development cooperation, technology, investment, capacity building and closer people-to-people contacts.
