Prayagraj, Jan 24 : ongoing Mahakumbh-2025 in Prayagraj has seen an unprecedented turnout, with over 10 crore devotees taking a holy dip at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati since January 11, just two days before the formal start of the mega fair on January 13, officials said on Thursday.
The milestone, achieved by noon on January 24, underscores the immense faith and devotion of sadhus, Kalpvasis, and pilgrims from across the globe. The state government estimates that this Mahakumbh will host over 45 crore visitors, and the early milestone of 10 crore bathers aligns with these expectations.
On January 24 alone, 30 lakh devotees, including 10 lakh Kalpvasis, participated in the holy rituals, contributing to the steady influx of pilgrims to the world’s largest religious congregation, officials added.
Record-Breaking Bathing Festivals
The Mahakumbh has witnessed significant participation during key bathing festivals. On Makar Sankranti (January 14), 3.5 crore devotees performed the Amrit Snan, while 1.7 crore devotees participated in the Paush Purnima Snan (January 13).
The event reflects India’s cultural diversity, uniting people from all castes, creeds, and nations under the theme of unity. The philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The World is One Family) resonates strongly as millions come together in devotion.

Recognized as UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017, Mahakumbh attracts international pilgrims from countries like the USA, Canada, Germany, Russia, Fiji, Mauritius, Malaysia, and Australia, transforming the sandy banks of the Ganga into a global village.
Pilgrims and visitors alike experience a blend of faith, karma, devotion, meditation, and philosophy, embodying the traditions of Sanatan dharma on an extraordinary scale.
