Srinagar, August 3: Security forces killed a terrorist in an ongoing anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, the Indian Army said on Saturday, marking the third encounter in the region this week.
The operation began on Friday evening when security personnel from the Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) engaged a group of terrorists hiding in the forests of the Akhal area of Kulgam in south Kashmir.
“Intermittent and intense fire fight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact. One terrorist has been neutralised so far,” the Army’s Chinar Corps said in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The operation remains ongoing.
This week’s encounters have resulted in the deaths of six terrorists, including all three involved in the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Security forces have intensified counterinsurgency operations across the Kashmir Valley amid a resurgence in militant activity.
Authorities have not yet released the identity or affiliation of the slain terrorist in the Kulgam operation.
