New Delhi, Jan 24 : India will observe Parakram Diwas, or the Day of Valour, on January 23, 2025, to honour the contributions and leadership of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a key figure in the country’s fight for independence. The occasion marks the 128th birth anniversary of the esteemed freedom fighter.
Subhas Chandra Bose, born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Orissa, was a prominent nationalist leader who joined the Indian National Congress in 1921 under Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership. He later became Congress president in 1938 and spearheaded multiple efforts to secure India’s freedom. To commemorate his legacy, the Government of India declared January 23 as Parakram Diwas in 2021.
“Parakram Diwas serves as a day to inspire patriotism, particularly among the youth, and to remind citizens of the sacrifices made by Netaji,” an official statement said.
This year’s celebrations will feature a grand event at Barabati Fort in Cuttack, Bose’s birthplace, from January 23 to January 25, 2025. Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi is set to inaugurate the three-day event, which will honour Netaji’s enduring legacy and extraordinary courage.
Parakram Diwas is an official holiday in several states, including West Bengal, Tripura, Jharkhand, Assam, and Odisha. The day is marked across India with assemblies, parades, and special events, underscoring Bose’s role in the independence movement.
“Netaji’s life emphasizes courage in the face of adversity and serves as an enduring inspiration to the nation,” the statement added.
