Mumbai, Dec 25: The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Mumbai University has launched a heartwarming initiative aimed at supporting cancer patients, particularly women, by encouraging girl students to donate their ponytails to create wigs. The project is designed to help alleviate the emotional trauma caused by hair loss during cancer treatment, which can significantly impact a patient’s confidence and self-esteem.
The hair donation event will be held on February 15, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Azad Maidan, Mumbai. The event, organized in collaboration with the HindAyan Foundation, aims to provide wigs for cancer patients, offering them a sense of normalcy during their recovery. Wigs can be prohibitively expensive for many patients, making donations like this essential for those in need.
Sushil Shinde, NSS Coordinator at Mumbai University, expressed the importance of the initiative, stating in a letter, “Anyone who wishes to donate their hair can contribute to making wigs for cancer patients.”
The partnership with the HindAyan Foundation underscores the significance of addressing the emotional challenges faced by cancer patients, especially women, who often struggle with the social stigma associated with hair loss. By making wigs accessible to those undergoing treatment, the initiative hopes to restore a sense of dignity and confidence to cancer patients.
This event is part of Mumbai University’s ongoing efforts to engage students in meaningful social causes while making a tangible impact on the lives of those affected by cancer.
