Mizoram CM Lalduhoma unveils Rs 4,349-crore credit blueprint at NABARD seminar

Aizawl, Dec 16: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday attended the State Credit Seminar 2026–27 organised by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Mizoram Regional Office, at the Assembly Conference Hall here.

During the seminar, the Chief Minister released the State Focus Paper (SFP) 2026–27 and addressed the gathering. He highlighted NABARD’s crucial role as a catalyst in Mizoram’s development and said the State has benefited significantly from NABARD-supported initiatives across various sectors.

Referring to key ongoing projects, Lalduhoma said the 10 MW Thenzawl Solar Power Plant, established with NABARD funding, is nearing inauguration, while another 5 MW solar power project is planned at Sumsuih. He also noted that the Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission is being implemented vigorously, with 4.5 lakh rubber saplings planted last year and plans to plant over 11 lakh saplings in the current year.

The Chief Minister cited the latest NITI Aayog Sustainable Development Index report, stating that Mizoram’s improved performance reflects the positive impact of the State’s development initiatives. In the report, Hnahthial district ranked first, Champhai second, and Kolasib ninth among districts in the Northeast region.

Emphasising the importance of agriculture, Lalduhoma said nearly 80 per cent of Mizoram’s population continues to depend on farming and allied activities for their livelihood. He urged banks to expand their outreach in hilly and remote areas, pointing out that of the 278 bank branches in the State, 180 are concentrated in Aizawl, Lunglei and Kolasib districts, while the remaining eight districts share only 95 branches.

Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena delivered the keynote address, outlining the State government’s initiatives and achievements in collaboration with NABARD and highlighting challenges ahead. He also appreciated NABARD for organising the seminar.

Ramdinliani, Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, addressed the seminar, followed by an interactive discussion among participants. Pankaja Borah, General Manager, NABARD, delivered the welcome address, while Lalrokunga Chhakchhuak, Deputy General Manager, presented the State Focus Paper.

According to the State Focus Paper 2026–27, a total credit outlay of Rs 4,349.71 crore has been projected for priority sectors. This includes Rs 2,260.99 crore for agriculture and allied activities, Rs 1,500.35 crore for MSMEs, Rs 432.35 crore for housing, Rs 24.67 crore for renewable energy, Rs 36.30 crore for social infrastructure, Rs 18.51 crore for education, Rs 6.55 crore for export credit, and Rs 70 crore for other sectors.
