Ranchi, Mar 19 : A massive fire broke out near an Indian Oil Terminal in Jharkhand’s Devghar on Tuesday, prompting authorities to evacuate nearby villages and move trains away from the affected area.
The fire started in the bushes in Badaladih village of Devghar’s Jasidih and spread rapidly over a large area. An Indian Oil Terminal, located in the Jasidih Industrial Area, is close to the fire’s origin, raising concerns about the safety of fuel storage facilities.
The fire has spread to the premises of the Indian Oil depot, and some gas pipes are reportedly located near the fire site. Fire engines are at the scene, and the Indian Oil Corporation is taking measures to contain the spread and protect gas pipelines from potential damage.
Authorities have asked residents of Santhaldih village, which is near the oil depot, to evacuate as a precaution.
Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) operates a petroleum storage and distribution centre in the industrial area, where petrol, diesel, and other petroleum products are stored for supply across Jharkhand and neighboring regions.
Videos from the scene show flames dangerously close to Indian Oil’s storage containers, with thick black smoke rising towards the depot. Another video captured police officials in a nearby village, urging residents to evacuate immediately to prevent casualties.
Villagers were also seen attempting to douse the flames using fire extinguishers.
