Imphal, Dec 18: Manipur Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and launched an investigation following an incident of indiscriminate firing allegedly by Kuki armed groups in the Torbung area, officials said on Tuesday.

The firing prompted security forces to significantly strengthen their presence across the affected region. Joint teams of police and other security agencies have been carrying out intensive combing and search operations to ensure public safety and prevent any further violence.

Senior police officials, including the Deputy Inspector General, visited the site to assess the ground situation and coordinate response measures.

During extensive search operations in the Kangvai area, security personnel recovered a cache of weapons, including one long-range improvised “pumpi,” four medium-range improvised pumpis, and one barrel-blasted medium-range improvised pumpi. A single-barrel firearm and 17 empty cartridge cases of various calibres were also seized.

Security forces also recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing approximately three kilograms. The Bomb Disposal Squad safely neutralised and disposed of the device, averting potential casualties.

Authorities have maintained heightened surveillance in the area, with additional security deployments remaining in place. Manipur Police said the situation is currently under control.

The incident highlights continuing security challenges in parts of the state, where tensions involving armed groups remain a concern for law enforcement agencies.
