Maharashtra BJP Legislator Moves Privilege Notice Against Comedian Kunal Kamra, Sena Leader
MUMBAI, March 26 – A breach of privilege notice was moved in the Maharashtra Legislative Council on Wednesday against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra and Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sushma Andhare over alleged derogatory remarks against state leaders.
BJP legislator Pravin Darekar, who filed the motion, accused Kamra of performing a song that contained “personal and insulting references” to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He also alleged that Andhare supported the act and used “objectionable language,” which he claimed amounted to contempt of the House.
“Both Kamra and Andhare have disrespected the dignity of legislative institutions through their remarks,” Darekar said in the Council. Meanwhile, in the Maharashtra Assembly, Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Bornare also submitted a breach of privilege notice against Andhare, alleging that she mocked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Presiding officer Sanjay Kelkar stated that Speaker Rahul Narwekar would decide on the notices.
