Jamshedpur, August 30: Loyola School in Jamshedpur hosted its annual inter-school cultural festival Rhapsody on Friday, bringing together 17 schools for a day of competitions, performances and creative showcases under the theme “Sports – The Spirit of Life.”

The event opened with a lamp-lighting ceremony led by former India fast bowler and Loyola alumnus Varun Aaron, who was the chief guest. School Rector Fr. Michael Thaneraj, Principal Fr. Vinod Fernandes and other dignitaries also attended the inauguration.

Aaron, now the bowling coach for Indian Premier League franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, was felicitated by the school and spoke to students about building character and confidence through such cultural platforms. “These moments prepare you for challenges beyond the classroom,” he told the gathering.

The day-long festival featured both on-stage and off-stage events, including dance, music, quizzes, creative arts and sports-themed competitions such as commentary in the style of Harsha Bhogle. Events with titles like Chhatri Kaleidoscope, Verse Voyage, Sports Caster and Quiz on the Pitch drew wide participation.

The closing ceremony was attended by coaches and players from the Tata Football Academy. Carmel Junior College was declared the overall champion, while Sacred Heart Convent School and St. Xavier’s School Gamharia were named joint runners-up.

The organisers said the event promoted collaboration, creativity and sportsmanship among students. “These festivals are where young people learn perseverance, respect and teamwork,” Principal Fernandes said.
