Krishna Janmashtami celebrated with devotion at historic Jagannathpur Temple

Ranchi, September 4: Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated with religious fervour at the historic Jagannathpur Temple, where special prayers, rituals, devotional music and offerings were organised throughout the day.

The temple opened its doors to devotees at 5 am, followed by the morning Mangal Aarti at 6 am.

Devotees subsequently recited the Jagannath Ashtakam as part of the religious observances.A large number of devotees visited the temple from the morning to offer prayers and seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra.

The temple premises resonated with devotional chants of “Jai Shri Krishna” and “Jai Jai Jagannath”.The deities were specially adorned for the occasion with traditional clothes, jewellery, garlands, peacock feathers and crowns. Devotees also offered various items as bhog, including kheer, suji halwa, sweets, fruits, coconut and cardamom.

Mahabhog was offered to the deities at noon, following which the temple doors were closed briefly at 12:10 pm. The temple reopened at 3 pm, when devotees began gathering again for darshan and devotional activities.

A special devotional music programme was held between 3 pm and 7 pm. Devotees participated in bhajans and devotional songs dedicated to Lord Jagannath and Lord Krishna.

The temple was decorated with colourful lights for the festival, creating a festive atmosphere in and around the premises.

An evening Mangal Aarti was held at 7:30 pm, followed by another recitation of the Jagannath Ashtakam. Prasad was subsequently distributed among devotees.

The temple doors were closed at 8 pm, bringing the day’s scheduled religious activities to an end.

The celebrations reflected the devotion of the local community and devotees who gathered at the historic temple to mark Janmashtami with prayers and religious festivities.
