Ranchi, July 13: The Jharkhand University Teachers’ Association (JUTAN) has announced that elections for its new executive committee will be held on July 26 through an electronic voting (e-voting) system.

The decision was taken during an online meeting of the association, which also finalized a roadmap for addressing key issues concerning university teachers across the state.

JUTAN resolved to launch a comprehensive campaign focusing on three major demands: the early disposal of pending teacher promotions, speedy completion of the salary fixation process in the Higher and Technical Education Department, and the operationalisation of the newly constituted University Grants Commission (UGC).

According to the association, the election process had been delayed due to members’ involvement in the promotion exercise and the need to study the new UGC regulations.

With these preliminary issues addressed, the organization has now scheduled the election.

The association unanimously demanded immediate promotion for teachers appointed after 2018, as well as those from the 2008 recruitment batch whose promotions remain pending.

It also sought conditional promotions for teachers named in the CBI list where the Advocate General has reportedly found no adequate evidence against them.

In addition, JUTAN urged the state government to complete the salary fixation process without further delay and appoint officials and staff to the newly formed UGC to enable it to function effectively.

The meeting further resolved that the newly elected executive committee would launch a phased agitation if these demands are not addressed by the concerned authorities.

JUTAN also released its election schedule. The voters’ list and election notification will be published on July 13, while nomination papers can be filed from July 14 to July 16.

Candidates may withdraw their nominations until 5 pm on July 18. Voting will take place on July 26 from 10 am to 4 pm through electronic mode, with the results to be declared later the same day.

The election process will be supervised by Dr. Ganesh Barke and Dr. Kanjeev Lochan, both of whom will oversee the conduct of the polls but will not contest the election.

Several members, including representatives from various universities across Jharkhand, attended the online meeting and discussed the association’s future strategy for safeguarding the interests of university teachers.
