Ranchi, Aug 28 : The Jharkhand CID has arrested four candidates who cleared the JSSC-CGL examination as part of its ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the recruitment process, officials said on Friday.
The latest arrests have expanded the scope of the probe, which has already resulted in the arrest of several people allegedly linked to the case. The CID had also taken two other accused into custody a day earlier.
The four candidates arrested by the investigation agency have been identified as Deepak Kumar, Vijay Kumar Tiwari and Anand Kumar Singh, residents of Dhanbad, and Umesh Kumar Rai, who is currently based in Bokaro.
The CID is investigating alleged malpractice in the Jharkhand Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination-2023, conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission in September 2024.
The state government had earlier decided to cancel several recruitment examinations following protests by job aspirants over alleged irregularities. The JSSC-CGL examination was among the tests facing cancellation.
However, the Jharkhand High Court later put the cancellation decision on hold after successful candidates approached the court, expressing concern over the possible impact on their appointments.
A Special Investigation Team constituted within the Jharkhand CID is handling the case and examining the alleged irregularities as well as the possible involvement of individuals connected with the examination.
The investigation had earlier led to the arrest of Abhay Tiwari, who was serving as a Block Supply Officer in Poriyahat, Godda. His wife Sushama Kumari and brother Akshay Tiwari were also arrested subsequently.
With the latest arrests, investigators are expected to examine the links between the successful candidates and other accused persons and determine whether the alleged irregularities involved a larger network.
The CID is continuing its investigation, and further arrests or legal action will depend on the evidence collected during the probe.
