Six arrested for extortion bid & firing attempt on doctor in Hazaribagh

Hazaribagh, November 11: In a major crackdown, Hazaribagh Police have arrested six people for demanding extortion money from a doctor and later attempting to fire at his residence in the Barkatha police station area.

According to Hazaribagh police, on the night of October 30, 2025, Gulam Rabani, a resident of Ghaghri village under Barkatha police station, received a threatening call on his mobile demanding Rs 10 lakh as extortion.

Later on November 6, the accused allegedly opened fire at his car parking following which a case was registered under Section 308(4) of the IPC and Section 27 of the Arms Act.

Taking the matter seriously, Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police formed a special team under the leadership of the SDPO Barhi to trace the culprits. The team carried out raids at several locations and arrested six accused namely Naweed Khan, Salman Ansari, Gulam Ansari, Afroj Ansari, Alok Kumar, and Saurabh Kumar.

Meanwhile, Police also recovered a country-made pistol, eight live cartridges, a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle and six mobile phones from their possession. All the arrested persons are residents of different villages of Hazaribagh district.

The SSP said that the operation reflects the police’s commitment to maintaining strict action against organized criminal activities in the region.
