Dhanbad, Dec 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Principal Secretary Dr. Pramod Kumar Mishra has reviewed the ongoing rehabilitation and development work at the Ena mines fire zone of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) in Dhanbad.
During his visit, Dr. Mishra appreciated the company’s efforts and directed officials to focus on winning the trust of affected families and ensuring their proper resettlement.
Dr. Misra, who was in Dhanbad as the chief guest for the IIT ISM Dhanbad Centenary Celebration, reached the Ena fire site around 10 pm along with Coal India Limited Chairman Sanjog Kumar Mishra and PMO Director Parthiban P. The team inspected ongoing work meant for people displaced by the underground mine fire and assessed the condition of the affected areas.
During the visit, he interacted with selected members of displaced families, listened to their concerns about rehabilitation challenges, and sought their suggestions on employment and livelihood support. He assured them that the government is committed to providing additional opportunities, including skill training and assistance for self-employment.

As part of the support measures, Dr. Misra handed over 20 e-rickshaws to residents displaced by the mine fire. The distribution was aimed at providing immediate livelihood support to affected families.
The Deputy Commissioner of Dhanbad, who also serves as Managing Director of the Jharia Rehabilitation Development Authority (JRDA), briefed Dr. Misra about the progress at Belgadia Township, where many displaced families have been relocated. He informed that the administration is working to improve basic facilities, extend government welfare schemes and ensure that residents face no difficulties in their new settlement.
After reviewing the presentation, Dr. Misra instructed officials to strengthen infrastructure and services for the displaced population. He emphasised the need for better education, healthcare, employment and access to major government schemes in the rehabilitation areas.
Notably, it was his first visit to Dhanbad. Earlier, he landed at the Durgapur Airport in the evening and travelled directly to the city before heading to the fire-affected zone.
