Jamshedpur, July 30: A labourer was killed and three others were seriously injured after an explosion in the furnace of a sheet metal fabrication unit in Jharkhand’s Adityapur Industrial Area in Seraikela-Kharswan district on Thursday, officials said.
The blast occurred inside the furnace of the industrial unit, leaving around six workers injured. Three of the injured were administered first aid at a nearby community health centre and were later discharged.
The remaining three workers, who sustained critical injuries, were shifted to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) in Jamshedpur for specialised treatment.
Chief Inspector of Industries Manish Kumar said one of the critically injured labourers succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
“One of the injured succumbed to injuries during the course of treatment,” Kumar said.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
“An investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the explosion,” the Chief Inspector of Industries said.
Officials said further details regarding the incident and the cause of the blast would emerge after the completion of the investigation.
