Man hacked to death during Ram Navami procession in Jharkhand; stone-pelting leaves six injured in Dhanbad

Hazaribag/Dhanbad, March 28: A 40-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death during a Ram Navami procession in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag district, police said on Saturday, even as a separate stone-pelting incident during similar celebrations in Dhanbad left six people injured.
The deceased, identified as Rama Saw, was attacked on Friday night in Gadokhar village under the Pelawal outpost limits following an altercation during the procession. According to police, two assailants allegedly used sharp-edged weapons to carry out the attack.
Amit Anand said, “It seems that the incident happened due to old enmity. Two suspects have been identified, but they are now on the run. Raids are being conducted to arrest them.”
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and the body has been sent to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem examination.
In a separate incident, around six people were injured in a stone-pelting episode in Bhikraipur area of Dhanbad district on Friday evening during a Ram Navami procession.
Prabhat Kumar described the घटना as minor, stating, “It was a minor incident of stone pelting among teenagers of two communities during the procession. Police intervened and the situation was brought under control soon. Everything is normal in the area at the moment.”
Ritvik Shrivastav added that “normalcy was restored within half-an-hour.”
Police said the situation in both districts is now under control, with security tightened to prevent any further untoward incidents during the festive period.
