Ranchi, Aug. 5: The Election Commission on Wednesday published the draft electoral rolls for Jharkhand following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, with more than 43 lakh names removed from the voter list under various categories, including deceased, shifted, absent and duplicate electors.
According to Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K. Ravi Kumar, the state had a total of 2,64,63,236 registered electors before the revision exercise. Following the completion of the enumeration process, the draft electoral roll now comprises 2,21,01,249 electors.
The Special Intensive Revision was carried out between June 30 and July 29, during which 2,21,01,249 voters, constituting 83.51 per cent of the electorate, submitted their enumeration forms.
The exercise involved extensive door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who distributed, collected and verified enumeration forms across the state.
A total of 43,61,987 names were removed from the draft electoral rolls under the ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Dead or Duplicate) category.
According to the data released by the Election Commission, 7.63 lakh names were deleted as the electors were found to be deceased, 15.92 lakh had permanently shifted to other locations, 14.50 lakh remained untraceable or were absent during the verification process, while 4.38 lakh were identified as duplicate registrations.
The Chief Electoral Officer also stated that around 1.16 lakh electors refused to sign and submit their enumeration forms to Booth Level Officers during the verification exercise.
Election officials said the Special Intensive Revision was undertaken to improve the accuracy and integrity of the electoral rolls through extensive field verification before finalising the voter list. The draft rolls will now be open for claims and objections in accordance with the Election Commission’s prescribed procedures before the publication of the final electoral rolls.
