Ranchi, Aug 10: The Jharkhand CID on Monday arrested former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) chairperson L Khiangte in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, a senior official said.
The arrest comes amid massive protests by job aspirants demanding action over alleged discrepancies in examinations conducted by the commission.
“We have arrested former JPSC chairperson L Khiangte in connection with irregularities in recruitment examinations,” Additional Director General (CID) Manoj Kaushik told PTI.
Khiangte had been questioned by the investigating agency four times since July 28 before his arrest.
With his arrest, the number of people arrested by the CID in the case has risen to 20, officials said.
Khiangte, a former Jharkhand chief secretary, was appointed JPSC chairperson in February 2025 after his retirement from the state administration. He resigned from the post on July 22, a day before the CID conducted searches at multiple locations, including his official residence, as part of its probe into the alleged examination irregularities.
The arrest also comes a day after all three serving JPSC members resigned amid mounting protests by aspirants over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.
The protests have intensified in recent weeks, with candidates demanding accountability and action against those allegedly responsible for irregularities in the recruitment process.
Khiangte, while explaining his decision to step down, had said he “voluntarily chose to resign” to ensure an impartial investigation into the matter.
The CID investigation into the alleged irregularities is continuing.
