Jamshedpur, July 13: The Mango Block Congress on Thursday staged a protest by burning the effigy of Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Rai near Mango roundabout, alleging that his reported remarks about the residents of Mango were derogatory and insulting.

Led by Mango Block Congress President Ishwar Singh, party workers raised slogans against the BJP legislator and demanded that he withdraw the alleged statement. Congress leaders claimed the remarks had hurt the sentiments of the people of Mango and reflected an inappropriate mindset.

During the protest, a minor mishap occurred when the effigy, allegedly sprinkled with petrol before being set ablaze, suddenly caught fire. Ishwar Singh, Manoj Jha and several Congress workers narrowly escaped burns as the flames spread rapidly, triggering brief panic at the protest site. The effigy soon collapsed and burned completely.

Addressing the gathering, Ishwar Singh said, “If any public representative says that criminals are born in every house of Mango, then it is not only an insult to lakhs of people of Mango but also reflects the thinking and mentality of the public representative.”

The protest concluded peacefully after the effigy burning, with Congress leaders reiterating their demand for an apology over the alleged remarks.
