Ranchi, Sep 18: Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, and the Quality Council of India (QCI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen sustainable mining practices, environmental governance and climate action in the mining sector.
The agreement was signed at QCI in New Delhi on Thursday by Punam Singh, General Manager (Environment), CMPDI, and Prof. (Dr.) Varinder S. Kanwar, CEO, National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), QCI.
The MoU focuses on areas including sustainable mining, ESG practices, environmental governance, climate action, GHG accounting, environmental and climate assessments, carbon management, quality enhancement and capacity building.
Under the collaboration, CMPDI will have access to QCI’s quality frameworks, technical expertise and knowledge-sharing platforms. The partnership is expected to strengthen CMPDI’s technical and consultancy capabilities in low-carbon and environmentally responsible mining.
The two organisations will work on joint technical studies, research, capacity-building programmes, environmental benchmarking and pilot projects, besides developing innovative methodologies and enhanced quality standards for the mining sector.
The signing ceremony was attended by Chaudhari Shivraj Singh, CMD, CMPDI, Chakravarthy T. Kanan, Secretary General, QCI, and senior officials from both organisations.
The collaboration will also support the adoption of robust methodologies and quality practices, strengthening CMPDI’s role as a technical and knowledge partner in the mining sector.
QCI promotes quality standards and quality-related activities across sectors and undertakes accreditation, assessment and capacity-building activities through its constituent boards, including NABET.
