Ranchi, June 20: Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a video conference with all district collectors from the state secretariat today, instructing them to stay in full alert mode in view of the ongoing heavy rains across the state.

The CM emphasized the need for effective measures to tackle problems caused by waterlogging in both urban and rural areas, aiming to provide relief to the general public.

He directed district officials to coordinate closely with local authorities to quickly resolve waterlogging issues. Collectors were asked to assess damage caused to infrastructure such as roads, bridges, houses, and crops, and submit immediate reports to the state government to ensure timely relief and compensation for affected people. Control rooms established in the districts must be kept fully functional.

Given the heavy rainfall, the Chief Minister also advised taking precautions at tourist spots like waterfalls and barrages to prevent any untoward incidents, urging collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and local communities. Adequate security personnel should be deployed at these sites as required.

In addition, Soren instructed officials to carry out spraying activities in waterlogged areas to control diseases that may arise from stagnant water. He highlighted the increased risk of snake bites during the monsoon season and ordered that anti-rabies vaccines and other essential medicines be made available at health centres.

The CM underlined the importance of preparedness for monsoon-related challenges as heavy rains have started early this year. He ordered prompt repair of any damage to roads, bridges, and culverts, and warned against illegal sand mining, identifying it as a potential cause for the weakening or collapse of bridges and roads. Strict action must be taken to stop such activities immediately.
