Ranchi, June 29: A tragic incident occurred on Sunday morning on the Howrah–New Delhi main rail line, around 20 kilometers east of Jamtara in Jharkhand. Eight buffaloes were killed after colliding with the engine of the Kolkata–Amritsar Akal Takht Express between Chittaranjan and Rupnarayanpur railway stations.

The collision happened near the Anjani factory around 11:30 am. Following the impact, the animals got entangled in the engine, forcing the train to a halt. The remains of the cattle were scattered over nearly half a kilometer of the track, causing a temporary disruption in rail operations.

Due to the incident, train movement was affected for about half an hour. The Kolkata–Jhansi First War of Independence Weekly Superfast train was held at Rupnarayanpur station for approximately an hour, leading to inconvenience for passengers.

The railway administration has ordered an investigation into the matter. Officials are trying to determine how the animals accessed the railway tracks. The Railway Protection Force is working to identify the cattle owner. The incident has once again raised serious concerns over safety and monitoring along railway tracks in rural and semi-urban regions.
