Sahibganj, Nov 26: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated the pre-feasibility process for the construction of a domestic airport and air cargo hub here under the Greenfield Airport Policy.
In this regard, a six-member technical team from the AAI has started groundwork for the project, which is proposed in the Bhitha area along with the Hajipur Diara region of Sahibganj circle.
As part of the study, about 494.30 acres of land have been identified for the proposed airport and cargo hub, comprising both government and raiyati (private) land. The technical team is conducting a detailed assessment of the proposed site, focusing on critical aspects such as terrain suitability, presence of hills, dense forest areas, forest land, and the potential impact on wildlife, including the existence of any nearby bird sanctuaries.

Meanwhile, revenue land status and other land-use factors are also being examined as part of the evaluation.
Significantly, the project is designed to be linked with the proposed multimodal port at Samda through a planned Marine Drive corridor, creating a strong logistics chain. Once operational, cargo is expected to be flown directly from major hubs such as Delhi, Mumbai and other parts of the country to Sahibganj.
From here, goods will then be distributed further through road, rail and port connectivity to nearby cities across Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal.
The proposed development is being seen as a major boost for air cargo infrastructure in Bihar and Jharkhand and is expected to significantly improve regional trade, logistics and industrial connectivity.
