Jharkhand weather alert: Heavy Rain, storms likely on August 28

New Delhi, Aug 27: The southwest monsoon remains active across the country, with several states likely to experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds on August 28, according to the weather forecast.

The weather system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Eastern Uttar Pradesh is also likely to witness heavy rain, along with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

Heavy rain alert for eastern and central India

Several states in eastern India are expected to receive rainfall on August 28. Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are among the regions likely to be affected.

Odisha may witness thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places. Strong winds are also expected in parts of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Sikkim.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands may experience stormy weather accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of up to 70 kmph.

Bihar is also likely to see thunderstorms and lightning, requiring residents to exercise caution during severe weather.

Northeast to receive heavy showers

Several northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely in several parts of the region. Authorities have advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorms and avoid exposed areas.

Rain forecast in western statesIn western India, Konkan and Goa are likely to receive heavy rainfall. Rainfall is also expected in parts of Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra and Kutch.

South India to witness rainfallSeveral southern states and Union Territories are also expected to receive rain. The forecast includes coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, north interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Telangana.

Kerala and Mahe may also receive rainfall. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are likely in parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and interior Karnataka.

With widespread rain and thunderstorms forecast across the country, people in affected areas have been advised to follow local weather alerts and exercise caution during periods of lightning, strong winds and heavy rainfall.
