Ranchi, Mar 27: Jharkhand’s emerging startup ecosystem received a boost after a student-led venture from BIT Sindri secured national recognition by winning a seed grant of ₹10 lakh under a corporate innovation initiative.
Syed, along with his team at VoWHELM Pvt. Ltd., was awarded the grant by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India under its Bharat Safety Program.
The team has also been selected for incubation support at the Atal Incubation Centre, IIT Delhi, officials said.
Congratulating the achievement, Sumit Kumar, Chairman of the Jharkhand Entrepreneurs Association (JEA), termed it a “proud moment” for the state.
“This reflects the untapped potential of Jharkhand’s youth when provided with the right direction and exposure.
While we had the opportunity to guide at an early stage, the real credit goes to the founder and the team for their execution and commitment,” he said.Kumar added that such milestones highlight the need to strengthen the startup ecosystem within the state.
“We are working towards establishing a state-of-the-art incubation and innovation centre in Ranchi under JEA, which will enable local startups to access mentorship, funding and national-level opportunities without having to move out,” he said.
The proposed initiative aims to position Jharkhand as a growing startup hub by bridging gaps between grassroots innovation and institutional support.
JEA officials expressed confidence that improved infrastructure and ecosystem support would help more entrepreneurs from the state achieve similar success at the national level.
